Course Code FA014 Course Type Postgraduate Credit Points Required 72 Description The Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting) is designed primarily for practicing accountants who already have an undergraduate accounting qualification or major, and therefore includes advanced professional accounting body (CA and CPA) training. Course Structure A total of 12 units (72 credit points) 4-6 core units An Accounting major with 4-6 units (see below list of Elective units offered in this course chosen from: Advanced Financial Reporting; Business Tax Planning; Contemporary Issues in Auditing; Special Topic in Accounting; Management Control Systems; Advanced Managerial Accounting; Intermediate Financial Reporting; Corporate Collapse; Business Information Systems; Corporations Law; Financial Statement Analysis; International Accounting. No more than 2 units from the areas of study in Table B. Note: Students may be granted credit for up to four core units at application stage. When students complete their CA or CPA they will be eligible to receive a further two units of credit. Students in this award course may therefore complete only six units of study at the Faculty, depending on how many credits they are granted. Table B · Econometrics · Economic History · Management · Political Economy Entry requirements A completed bachelor's degree or equivalent with a major in Accounting from a recognised institution with a minimum Credit (65%) or equivalent average AND completion within the last three years of the PY or the CPA program or enrolment in the PY or CPA program that will result in completion prior to graduation from the Master of Commerce. Cost (2004) Local Students: $1800 per unit of study International Students: $2640 per unit of study Duration A typical full-time student will undertake 4 units of study per semester, completing the 12 units in 3 semesters.
Some units are available through Summer School, which may make it possible to complete the 12 units in 14 months.
Part-time students undertake between 1 and 2 units per semester, typically completing the program in between 3 and 4 years. In general, units are taught during the evening, making it ideal for students in full-time employment.
